CAMERATA ACADEMICA is a professional chamber ensemble within the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad. The members of this ensemble have always been – and they still are – the best young musicians from the Academy of Arts: assistant professors, professors and the most talented students. Some of previous members of Camerata are now renowned soloists and members of prestigious European orchestras (Julija Hartig, Peđa Milosavljević, Dejan Bogdanović, Zorica Stanojević, and many more).
Camerata Academica has collaborated with numerous Serbian and foreign soloists of highest rank, and under the artistic direction of cellist Ištvan Varga the ensemble has performed in all major cities of ex-Yugoslavia, in Germany (Dortmund) and Netherlands (Amsterdam), on important music manifestations such as Bemus, Nomus, Ohrid Summer, International Composers’ Review, City-Theatre Budva…), and made a significant number of radio and TV recordings.
Camerata has always had on its repertoire pieces of contemporary composers, and successfully performed until the end of 1999 when, regretfully, had to stop its activities because of the situation in the country.
After several failed attempts to reestablish the ensemble, it finally succeeded in 2007. A group of best students, eager to perform on the highest professional level, in cooperation with their professors have formed a top-quality orchestra, that was missing in Novi Sad for 10 years, and for the artistic director, they choose professor Dejan Mlađenović, one of the most prominent violists in the country and abroad. Camerata performs the most beautiful and demanding compositions both of the classical repertoire and written by Serbian composers and collaborates with prominent Serbian soloists (Imre Kalman, Peđa Milosavljević). The ensemble receives favorable reviews that distinguish the beauty of their tone and an impressive expression. Vojvodina Radio and Television has offered to the orchestra the possibility of studio recording of every performance soon after the reunion. Another interesting decision that positions Camerata equally together with some of the leading world orchestras and the fact that makes it a true Vojvodina orchestra is the multinationality of its members.
