Terem Quartet, ensemble from St. Petersburg, is well known for their virtuoso traditional Russian instruments playing. Their broad repertoire “mixes balalaika folk, classical music, pop shock, and the late Romantic pathos”. The Russian press calls the ensemble ‘St. Petersburg’s calling card’, bracketing the Quartet together with the Hermitage, the Mariinsky Theatre and the Russian Museum.
Using their instruments in a dazzling way, the Quartet has enchanted audiences all over the world.
A “Terem” is an old traditional Russian wooden house with a tower, which brings together totally different kinds of people and different musical trends. Through their music, the Terem-Quartet is able to win over any international audience and having traveled throughout the world, they still remain Russian musicians who express deeply the heart of their nation.
Breaking down nearly every conceivable genre barrier, this ensemble has changed our perception of not just what a quartet can be, but what music can be in the 21st-century global village.
The Terem has performed in Queen Elisabeth Hall in London, Olympia in Paris, Alte Oper in Frankfurt, Passion Kirsche in Berlin, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, in Alterosa Theatre in Brazil, in Moscow Kremlin, in Italy, India, Finland, Poland, Australia, Latvia, Estonia, Belgum, Scotland, Now Zealand, Canada, Austria, Czech Republic, Israel, Ireland, Korea, Hungary, Japan, Spain, Singapore, the USA, South Africa…
The Terem is welcomed everywhere, especially at important celebrations: Unification of Germany Day, cultural program at the Olympics in Barcelona, 3000 years of Jerusalem, Venetian Carnival, EXPOs in Hanover and Prague…
